For a full-container shipment from China to the USA, compare the complete delivery scope rather than the ocean rate alone. A useful FCL DDP quotation identifies the cargo, container, named delivery place, included services, rate validity and circumstances that could change the final bill.

Start with the named delivery destination

A port name is not the same as a warehouse address. Give the forwarder the full US delivery address and ZIP code, and identify whether it is a business, a third-party warehouse or an Amazon receiving location. Include the cargo-ready date and any required delivery date so the route can be reviewed against your actual needs.

Check these five parts of the quotation

  1. Origin: supplier collection or warehouse handover, loading arrangements, export documentation and origin handling.
  2. Main transport: container type, sailing assumptions, routing and any stated surcharges.
  3. Import arrangements: clearance responsibilities, the information required from the shipper and consignee, and the treatment of duties and taxes.
  4. Destination: terminal handling, onward transport, delivery appointments and the exact delivery point.
  5. Conditions: quote validity, payment terms, free-time assumptions and event-dependent charges.

Clarify the DDP responsibility separately from the freight price

DDP is an Incoterms rule used in a sale of goods. Your seller-buyer agreement and the logistics provider’s service quotation need to be consistent. Ask who will perform each clearance step and supply the supporting documents. Do not treat the label “DDP” as a substitute for an itemized delivery scope.

The US International Trade Administration explains that Incoterms allocate responsibilities and should identify the named place. See its official Incoterms overview. Product-specific import requirements and current charges should be checked for the shipment; this checklist does not provide a tariff rate.

Ask about exceptions before booking

Request the charging basis for inspection-related handling, storage, equipment detention, waiting time, unsuccessful delivery and changes to the destination. Confirm who approves extra work and what evidence accompanies an additional charge. Ask whether unloading is included and what equipment the receiving warehouse must provide.

Information to send for an FCL enquiry

  • Product description, materials, intended use and any special handling needs.
  • Packing list, package count, dimensions and total gross weight.
  • Preferred container type, or a request for a loading-plan review.
  • Pickup location in China and cargo-ready date.
  • US delivery address, ZIP code and warehouse receiving instructions.
  • Required arrival window and appointment or unloading restrictions.

Can a quotation guarantee there will be no changes?

Ask which figures are fixed and which depend on verified cargo details, booking dates or events outside the planned movement. A clear written exception is more useful than an undefined promise of “all inclusive.” Keep the accepted scope with your booking records.
