Looking for a shipping partner? Explore LHD dropshipping from China to the USA, or use the process checklist below to plan your requirements.
Shipping individual orders from China to US customers starts with a repeatable fulfilment process, not just a low postage rate. Before launching, confirm who holds the stock, how orders reach the fulfilment team, when parcels are handed to the carrier and how delivery exceptions are handled.
1. Confirm the product and route before taking orders
Prepare a product description, photographs, materials, SKU list and packed weight and dimensions. Flag batteries, liquids, powders, magnets or branded goods at the enquiry stage. Ask the provider to confirm whether the proposed route accepts each product. A shipping quote for one SKU does not automatically apply to your whole catalogue.
2. Agree how inventory and orders will be managed
Decide whether the supplier dispatches each order or stock is sent to a fulfilment location first. Confirm receiving checks, stock reporting, order cut-off times and the process for out-of-stock items. Ask whether orders are submitted manually, by spreadsheet or through a supported integration; do not assume a store connection is included.
3. Define packing and dispatch instructions
- Specify which items go together and how bundles are identified.
- Agree the packaging, protective materials and any inserts before dispatch.
- Confirm whether supplier invoices or branding should be included.
- Request the price of pick-and-pack, packaging and any additional handling separately from postage.
Run a small pilot with representative products before scaling. Check the finished parcel, label, order accuracy and tracking milestones against the agreed process.
4. Separate processing time from transit time
Ask for an estimate covering stock availability, order processing, carrier handover, international movement and final delivery. A transit estimate beginning at carrier acceptance does not include time spent waiting for a supplier to release stock. Confirm which tracking event starts the quoted window and how weekends, remote destinations and exceptions are treated.
5. Agree an exception and returns process
Record who handles address corrections, failed delivery, delayed tracking, loss or damage claims and customer returns. Ask for claim deadlines and evidence requirements. An international parcel service does not by itself establish a US returns address or a refund policy for your store.
Questions to ask before comparing quotes
- Is pricing based on actual weight, dimensional weight or another service-specific rule?
- Which packing, fuel, remote-area or handling charges may apply?
- Who handles import formalities, and how are any duties or taxes treated?
- What tracking is available, and when is the first carrier scan expected?
- What changes when order volume or parcel dimensions change?
